Colour Forward Looking Sonar

A colour FLS with the best range and performance yet. Developed with all the

expertise gathered by Echopilot over 13 years of manufacturing Forward Looking

Sonar. With greater resolution than previous models, the large transflective colour

LCD can be seen in the brightest sunlight. The use of colour enables enhanced

seabed interpretation - the colour of the target depends on its hardness and the

strength of echo that it returns. The Platinum is NMEA compatible and can dis-

play GPS data. It is designed for flush mounting but there is an optional bracket

for wheelhouse use.

Forward Looking Sonar

Real time forward looking 200kHz sonar with enhanced processing software for

improved performance. See underwater obstructions ahead of the vessel rather

than just the depth below. The range

is 20-150m ahead, 10-75m down.

The FLS Gold adds a wider screen,

NMEA in/out and a repeater option to

the features of the Silver FLS.

ECHOPILOT WRECK FINDER

Underwater Wreck Locator

Based on the FLS Gold, the Wreck Finder can locate wrecks and other manmade

objects on the sea bed. It can be used as a 2D FLS or a 3D Sidescan, with the

wreck finding facility working in both

modes. Interface with a GPS to store

the position of the last 10 wrecks.

Real Time Forward Looking Technology Explained

Real Time means that the FLS doesn’t gradually build up a picture,

instead it scans the whole forward view and updates the screen several times

a second. An obstruction ahead of the boat will be shown immediately.

The FLS displays a 2D profile of the seabed below and 3-5 times that depth

ahead of the vessel on a flat muddy bottom. This increases to 8 or 9 times if the

seabed shoals upward and more than this for a large target. Rocky bottoms give

especially strong reflections and hard vertical surfaces like quay walls or reefs will

often be seen at 150m or more.

In the vertical plane the FLS

scans through 90º from straight

ahead to straight down.

The FLS is not designed to be a

fishfinder, it is a collision

avoidance device. In reality it

does pick up larger fish and

sometimes shoals of smaller fish.

Black Box Colour Forward Looking Sonar

Turn your combi display into a colour FLS repeater! Black box colour forward

sonar which communicates via video signal with third party combi displays with a

composite or S-Video input. Available in two versions - a video interface box to

connect an FLS Platinum to a combi display, or a complete black box solution

comprising transducer, skin fitting, cables, electronics box and control keypad which

can be connected to any colour display or monitor with composite or S-Video input

(display not supplied)
